Dariusz Wolski points what he had learned while testing 3D rigs

Dariusz Wolski (Pirates of the Caribbean series, also ASC Award nominee for The Crimson Tide) had tested Vince Pace's Fusion 3D system (designed for Avatar), which he describes as a 'high-end native stereo', but also 'very time-consuming'. In the end, due to a wide range of intended CG environments, he decided to let Imageworks apply dimensionalization in post. However, shots intended for 3D have to be carefully thought-of:

"With 3D, it's best to shoot on the wider end. Our biggest close-ups were 75mm”

In 3D-language there is a proclivity to pick-up wider lenses than you would normally choose for a 2D movie.
