O Moleque (The Kid) is an adpatation from the hononymous tale, published in 1919, whose authorsip belongs to the Afro-Brazilian writer Lima Barreto. It´s the story of a poor black boy called Tião. He is the son of the best laundress in the region. His only friend is Pedrinho, a white boy with whom he goes fishing. Tião is injured is constantly hurt with bad names and is bullied by other boys because of the color of his skin. One day, he wins a gift from one of his mother´s clients: the gift is a carnivalesque gorrila costume. Tião wears that costume to scares the boys who usually make fun of him. This is an elegant way to level up his self-esteem.
